Survey on proposals for urgent and emergency care services
We are your local NHS in Southport, Formby and West Lancashire and we are asking for people’s views on two options for changing local urgent and emergency care services to help meet the challenges and goals outlined in our consultation booklet.
A&E services in our area are currently split across two sites with children’s at Ormskirk Hospital and the adult service in Southport. Our children’s unit, however, has been closed overnight for the past five years. Bringing services together on a single hospital site would help ease the pressures and allow us to provide round the clock emergency care to both adults and children. This is how it is done in most places across the rest of the NHS in England.
Options for a future A&E
Our proposals include two specific options for bringing services together at either Southport or Ormskirk hospital. Based on the evidence available to us, our preferred option is Southport which:
Could be delivered two years faster
Would cause less disruption to current services during redevelopment
Would cost significantly less
Find out more about the options here, and in our consultation document.
This survey is for everyone. If you need help finding or understanding the information provided, please get in touch and let us know how we can support you. We recommend reading the booklet before completing the survey or alternatively reading the summary version (seven minute read). There is also an easy-read version of the summary booklet and the survey.
There are also a number of face to face meetings being held where you can ask any questions you may have. Details of these are below.
Decisions will only be taken once we have heard a wide range of views. We need to be confident that proposals are based on all available evidence and consider the views and opinions of people who use and rely on our services.
This survey will stay open until midnight on Friday 3 October 2025
